If you love history and touring old homes, don’t miss Whalehead. The mahogany woodwork is beautiful. The docents and recorded narratives in each room were very informative. The restoration included air conditioning so escape the heat and step back in time for a pleasant visit.

HONORING OUR RICH MARITIME HERITAGE

The newest addition to Historic Corolla Park is the Currituck Maritime Museum, a 10,000-square self-interpretive experience that showcases several historic wooden boats, artifacts, and other displays that tell the stories of local businesses and citizens who have lived and worked on the various waterways of the region. Exhibit topics include: restored historical boats, fishing, lifesaving stations, lighthouses, the boat-building industry, decoy carving, weather and more.

“Our way of life in Currituck County has been molded by the waterways that surround us—from our mode of transportation and travel to the recreation activities we enjoy to our livelihoods. It’s always been an important part of our heritage and we’re excited to share those stories.” ~ Chandler Sawyer, Museum Manager
